a walk in the park

12th April 2017 Leave a Comment

a walk in the parkLast week saw MyParkScotland join with the morning Hospital Health Walk in in Beechwood Park , Stirling to talk about the benefits of walking for health and getting out in parks and greenspaces. Enjoying walking the park in glorious spring sunshine allowed everyone to walk, talk and laugh. The walk was followed by welcome tea and biscuits and to hear about the work of Paths for All and MyParkScotland.

This is part of ongoing work between MyParkScotland and Paths for All.

Frances Bain, Manager at Paths for All said:

“We’re delighted to support MyParkScotland in their unique platform to improve and promote our local parks. We support over 140 Health Walk projects across the country and most of them use local parks as venues for their volunteer-led walks. Our walkers not only experience physical benefits from taking part in walks in parks, but research suggests that spending time in greenspace is great for your mental health.
“We’re looking forward to helping more people to access and enjoy their local parks through the MyParkScotland website. The platform is now live so take a look at the locations, events and facilities your local park has to offer or find local projects running a funding campaign for a park near you www.mypark.scot.”

Ian Goodman, MyParkScotland Project Manager said:

“As Scotland’s only crowdfunding platform for parks and greenspaces, MyParkScotland provides a mechanism for community groups to raise funds for their park projects through online donations from individuals and businesses.  The platform also lists local park locations, events and facilities.

“Project funding through MyParkScotland can be for all or part of a planned project and the amount of money sought through crowdfunding can be large or small. So far, the platform has successfully helped fund over 35 projects around a range of topics.

“We will also be launching out Get Active Campaign Theme on 16 May to promote some fantastic projects helping people get active in the great Scottish outdoors!”

Paths for All champion everyday walking in Scotland.  They believe that access to good quality local greenspace is essential to allow residents and visitors in local communities to experience the health benefits of walking. MyParkScotland’s crowdfunding platform will increase the amount of good quality local greenspace we have in Scotland.

Keep an eye on MyParkScotland for more information about Health Walks and walking related projects as part of the MyParkScotland Get Active campaign theme launching in May 2017.
