We were lucky to join gayfield creative spaces as a guest walker on the first of their Garden Walks that will be taking place at Gayfield Square, Edinburgh on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays 11th to 27th August 12:30 to 13:30.
As well as promoting the health benefits of a daily 30 minute walk the Garden Walks will retrace and renew the garden pathway, check out Gayfield Maps for a fascinating insight and maps of Gayfield Square as far back as 1804 and how the square used to be laid out.
This is explored further in the Pace exhibition within the Gayfield Gallery, the exhibition explores the marking and mapping of the Gayfield locality and more widely of Edinburgh’s green spaces and creative initiatives.
If you are in Edinburgh at lunchtimes we would encourage people to go along for the Garden Walk, you never know what performers and activities you might experience as part of the walk. We had the pleasure of listening Danza del Caribe while we walked and talked.
Also check out the Walks by Design celebrating some of Edinburgh’s green spaces and their nearby creative initiatives. The routes can be walked at any time but there will be guided walks at 2pm on Sundays throughout August.
It is great to see the link between greenspaces, health and creative initiatives and we look forward to hearing more about the walks and encourage people to share their memories of parks and greenspaces across Edinburgh.
