MyParkScotland celebrates the Year of History, Heritage and Archaeology

26th April 2017 Leave a Comment

heritage and history campaign logo #myparkheritageNot only do parks and greenspaces provide a place for people to relax, keep fit, socialise and escape from busy lives they also provide a constant reminder of our history and heritage.

Parks and greenspaces, as well as the buildings and features within them, provide a rich part of our history and heritage. Through this campaign theme MyParkScotland will showcase the heritage of our parks and greenspaces and the exciting projects going on to celebrate this.

Wednesday 26 April sees the launch of the third MyParkScotland crowdfund campaign theme for 2017: the focus is on projects promoting and enhancing heritage and history in Scotland’s parks. #myparkheritage

Seven projects are currently part of the Heritage and History theme and they are looking for your support to help them fund their exciting projects. They include restoration, re-introducing an outdoor gym and re-opening a B-listed walled garden.

Ian Goodman, MyParkScotland Project Manager, said: “Parks and greenspaces are a key part of our heritage and the memories we all take from parks throughout our lives help form part of our personal history. MyParkScotland is delighted to be working with a great range of groups to celebrate that heritage with some exciting projects. We have a wonderful range of projects from play facilities within an arrow throw of a Roman wall, re introducing a Victorian outdoor gym and re-opening a historic walled garden. Have you got a great idea for a heritage project? It’s not too late to join in as we’ll be adding new projects throughout May and June”.

Crowdfunding means that anyone can chip in and lots of small donations can make big things happen.

So please check out the Heritage and History projects http://bit.ly/myparkheritage and help them breathe new life in to parks and greenspaces.

The active Heritage and History projects include:

Monteath Mausoleum Restoration, Glasgow Necropolis, Glasgow

Don’t sit on the fence – paint it!, Hayburn Park, Glasgow
