Hogganfield Loch Biohavens Installed

4th May 2016 Leave a Comment

volunteers planting one of the islandsA month ago volunteers from Friends of Glasgow Local Nature Reserves and Seven Lochs Wetland Park Project braved the weather to install 5 biohaven islands on Hogganfield Loch to improve biodiversity, provide nesting areas for birds including Great Crested Grebes and help improve water quality. The project also includes the monitoring of water quality which has been plagued by blue-green algae blooms.

This project was supported through crowdfunding here on MyParkScotland, take a look at the Island Homes for Hogganfield Grebes Project page in our completed projects page.

Funding from MyParkScotland alongside funds raised through grant applications helped make this project a reality. The project is featured as greenspace scotland Project of the Month for May 2016.

Jim Coyle, Chair of Friends of Glasgow LNR’s shot the short video below showing one of the islands being installed on the loch.

We at MyParkScotland were pleased to be able to support this great project and we look forward to seeing how the islands are used by the Hoggenfield grebe population over the coming years and become part of the landscape of the park and Loch. Take a look at the Hogganfield Park page to learn more about this Glasgow Local Nature Reserve.
