Craigtoun Country Park is located within a golf course on the outskirts of St Andrews.
It comprises the old grounds of Craigtoun House, which was taken over by Fife Council and adapted to create a country park. Its character reflects this varied history with mature trees, overgrown avenues and stone features left as remnants of the country house garden, the toilet blocks, pond, chateau, glasshouses and ornamental gardens left from the 1900’s. Facilities comprise a site on train, boating pond with pedalos, crazy golf, cafe, new play areas, toilet blocks, attractive ornamental gardens, bowling green, path network, picnic areas and woodland areas.
Fife Council work in partnership with the Friends of Craigtoun Country ark. The Friends of Craigtoun Country Park was formed in 2012 with the aim of securing the future of the park as an amenity for the people of St Andrews, Fife and visitors to the area.
Following lengthy discussions with Fife Council it was agreed that the Friends should take over the running of all facilities in the park and in a partnership arrangement the Council would maintain the grounds and assist with grants/investment. Cut to 2015 and the story gets even better. With the help of Council grants and external grants/donations further investment is planned for the new season including the complete re-furbishment of the Rio Grande miniature railway and the installation of a new free to use Trim Trail with zip wires.
