Park information

Duloch Park is a newly created park on the outskirts of Dunfermline, it has been built to provide facilities for the large areas of newly built housing surrounding it to the north and west. It is located adjacent to the new shopping centre, library and leisure centre. It comprises of an exposed grass park area, closest to the leisure centre and roads where facilities include, rugby pitch, cricket pitch, two play areas to north and south, fenced off football pitch, 5-aside pitch (floodlit) and wide cyclepaths looping around the space. There is also a large pond/ wetland area, burn corridor and rough grass bing paths which are predominantly mown grass. Calais Muir, also known locally as ‘Kellis Woods’, is a long established woodland, which is believed to be around 120 years old. It is 34 hectares in size and is one of the bigger woodlands in Fife Council ownership. Many historical features can be found here, including the ruins of a lime kiln – a relic of nineteenth century industry – on the Eastern boundary. Calais Muir Woodland is located to the East side of Dunfermline in an area called Duloch. Access to the woodland walks is behind the Duloch Library, Leisure Centre. Three waymarked nature trails have been created within the wood, the Enchanted Walk, Middle Path and Gypsy Way. Keep an eye out for sculptures of woodland creatures as you explore this special place.

The woodland is a great natural greenspace for both recreational use and offers a valuable and diverse habitat for wildlife. In recent years the area has become even more important, with the new housing and business development in the area. This brings new pressures and challnges to this old woodland.

Calais Muir is home to birds of prey including Sparrow Hawks and Buzzards, along with a wide range of smaller birds, who both live and nest within the woods. If you are lucky you may catch a glimpse of a Roe Deer at dawn or dusk.
