On Thursday 3rd March we had a great team from Scottish Widows helping to beautify Newhaven and tackle the hard tasks along with Stan from Starbank Park with a wheelbarrow and rake and Ross from SSE Hydro and the invaluable Lucy who was able to help with all the trees and extra tools. Iain and Finbar also helped to plant crab apple trees!
A team cleared up the Harbour and removed all the moss, it is all spin and span and truly beautiful now! The area on the wynd to Park Road was all cleared and trees planted, just an amazing task that looks so fabulous now with new trees. The back area was also cleared a little and made tidy, we also moved the planter to disguise the grill in front of the shop and planted a tree and periwinkle and pansies.
Maples were planted behind the bus stop area in the car park just behind the main road and rowans were planted in the triangle at Willowbank Row, Willows and fruit trees were planted in the main garden along with marigolds, cornflowers and sunflowers.
We are hoping to be able to create some stepping stones so it is easier to walk in the garden without getting too muddy, a seat and hopefully some more vegetable planters as this will really make a difference so fingers crossed for some more funding in the Spring as the flowers begin to bloom. Please help us make this a reality by donating through this crowdfund page.
Our next Gardening Day is Friday 18 March so if you can lend a hand please come along
