The Southern Necropolis gatehouse entrance is a unique and iconic building, designed by prominent architect Charles Wilson. Built back in 1848, the A Listed building has survived two world wars, the redevelopment of the surrounding Gorbals area, and the demolition of two nearby high-rise flats on Caledonia Road.

Present condition of the gatehouse roof has contributed to water entering the building, and if allowed to continue, will lead to further damage and deterioration of the stonework and structure.

The Friends of Southern Necropolis are seeking to raise funds for the repair of the roof, making it wind and watertight, with also the addition of much needed guttering to help ease further build up of water on the roof.

This will mean that there will be less damage to the gatehouse structure, both externally and internally, and help prolong the life of this unique and iconic building, towards its hopefully, full restoration in the future.

Restoration of the gatehouse will benefit the local community many of whom have shown appreciation for the historical and educational assets of the gatehouse, with the strong focus on its future restoration and reuse as a special resource for the community, and visitors to the Gorbals.

Please help us restore this iconic building in the heart of Glasgow!!
