Here at MyParkScotland we were delighted to take part in the Paths for All Step Count Challenge. The idea of the challenge is to get Scottish workplaces walking throughout May and June.
The first week has seen Team MyParkScotland rack up nearly 500,000 steps already. Now we are in the second week this is where the challenge starts with goals set for each of our team members to increase the number of steps.
As well as working to get the steps in we have been using the opportunity as you might expect to get out and about in as many greenspaces as possible to achieve our steps target. This has included riverside walks, country parks, community gardens and diverting our normal routes through as many parks as possible. It has really made us appreciate the range of greenspaces that are close by to the office as well as those that we can easily visit.
It is has also given us the opportunity to take MyParkTeddy out and about as well to enjoy a variety of greenspaces and some sunshine.
We love the reasons given to walk on the Step Count Challenge website:
- Walking is free
- You can do it anywhere
- It easily fits around busy schedules
- You can do it at work
- You can do it at home
- You don’t need special equipment (or lycra)
- You can do it with friends and family
- It’s safe and low risk
- Did we mention that it’s free?
Added to this you can enjoy local greenspaces as part of your walking so would encourage anyone to find your local greenspace and use it as part of your daily walking.
We will be continuing to enjoy greenspaces over the remaining 7 weeks of the Step Count Challenge and beyond.
