The small print

MyParkScotland provides a safe and easy way for everyone who loves Edinburgh, Falkirk and Glasgow’s greenspaces to support our treasured parks.

It is Scotland’s only crowdfunding site specifically for parks and greenspace projects. You can donate safely and easily to support parks and park projects. You can make donations through the website or by text from your mobile phone. We use PayPal to manage online donations to the Park Project and Park Endowment Funds and JustTextGiving for mobile donations.

For most donations we can reclaim Gift Aid on your behalf from HMRC to increase the value of your donation. Gift Aid is a Government scheme which allows charities to increase the value of donations made to them. If you are a UK tax payer, Gift Aid can top up your donation on MyParkScotland by 25% at no extra cost to you.

Gift Aid makes a huge difference to small charities and local organisations, but if they aren’t registered with the Office of the Scottish Charity Regulator and HMRC, they can’t claim Gift Aid (and many that could claim Gift Aid don’t because they find the process too complicated). At MyParkScotland, we take care of the claim process on eligible donations, so that the Friends and community groups can concentrate on the great work they do in our parks. Adding Gift Aid to your donation typically means that your online donation of, for example, £10 becomes a park investment of £11.53 (after paying platform and management fees).

We work hard to keep our fees as low as possible to make sure that as much of each donation as possible is invested in our parks. For donations without Gift Aid, at least 92% of your donation is invested in parks. MyParkScotland is a not-for-profit registered Scottish charity (No. SC045424) and any fees taken go towards covering essential operating costs.

Here’s a quick guide to how it works:

Supporting a park project
  1. Find the project you would like to support
  2. Pick the gift level that you want to donate
  3. You have the opportunity to add Gift Aid on to your donation
  4. Complete your donation payment through payment gateway
  5. You have the opportunity to sign up for updates about the project
  6. The value of your donation can be seen on the Project page and will help the project meet the fundraising target

* Adding Gift Aid

If you are a UK tax payer, selecting a Level which includes Gift Aid means that we can top up your donation at no extra cost to you. You need to provide your address to enable us to claim Gift Aid.

Gift Aid and fees

What is Gift Aid?

Gift Aid is a Government scheme which allows charities to increase the value of donations made to them by reclaiming the tax you have already paid on your income. If you are a UK tax payer, Gift Aid can increase the value of your donation to MyParkScotland by 25% at no extra cost to you.

To qualify for Gift Aid, you must:

– be a registered UK tax payer

– be donating your own money (not money collected or raised offline, or money donated on behalf of someone else)

– have paid the same amount or more in Income Tax or Capital Gains Tax in that tax year

– provide personal details for a Gift Aid declaration

What management and processing fees are charged?

MyParkScotland is a not-for-profit organisation and a registered Scottish charity (No. SC045424). All fees we take go towards covering our operating and development costs. There are also some third party fees that we have to pay for using PayPal and JustTextGiving to process your donations. We work hard to keep our fees as low as possible to make sure the maximum amount from each donation is invested in the projects and parks you want to support.

Donation Fee – each donation made through MyParkScotland is subject to a 5% fee

Processing fee – PayPal charges a typical processing fee of 1.4% plus 20p for each donation (donations made with international credit or debit cards may incur a larger fee, usually 1.9% + 20p)

For donations without Gift Aid, at least 92% of your donation is invested in parks. Adding Gift Aid typically means that your online donation of, for example, £10 becomes a park investment of £11.53 (after paying platform and management fees).

What happens to my donation?’ (see below) illustrates how these fees are charged on a £10 donation.

What happens to my donation?

Donating to a park project

We use PayPal to manage your donations to the Park Project Funds. For most donations we can reclaim GiftAid on your behalf from HMRC to increase the value of your donation.*
This is what happens to your donation:

  1. If you donate, for example, £10 and your donation is eligible for Gift Aid, we will reclaim this on your behalf from HMRC. This adds £2.50 to your donation
  2. PayPal calculate their 1.4% fee on the donation and charge 20p for each transaction (on a £10 donation this would be 34p)
  3. MyParkScotland’s management fee is 5% on the donation +Gift Aid (on a £10 donation + £2.50 Gift Aid this would be 63p)
  4. Your £10 donation becomes £11.53
  5. £10 goes direct to the Park Project Fund and £1.53 is invested in the endowment fund which supports the long term management of our wonderful parks.

* If you aren’t able to Gift Aid you donation, the project will typically receive £9.16 from a £10 donation
